Our in-patient rehabilitation services aim to improve and restore function for patients with physical impairments.Our intensive rehabilitation services are focused on improving the quality of our patient’s lives.
In some cases after patients have completed their in-patient treatment at American Hospital, they require additional time and treatment to recover before they can return home. For example, patients who have suffered fractures, bone or joint injuries or have undergone surgeries, such as joint replacement, they may require admission to a rehab facility where they can receive intensive a physical therapy to help them recover, get stronger, regain mobility, and improve function.
At American Hospital, we have a specialized facility to offer rehabilitation services. Following a multidisciplinary approach, your rehabilitation physician and therapy team works to create an individualized care plan that is directed towards helping you maximize your recovery and achieve your health goals. Our dedicated facility accommodates patients with a wide variety of conditions that cause a decline in function, which may include but are not limited to:
• Stroke
• Spinal cord injury
• Brain injury
• Cardiac disease
• Pulmonary disease
• Orthopedic surgery
• Amputations
• Musculoskeletal disorders/ Multi-trauma cases
• Critical illness myopathy/neuropathy
We implement the therapeutic plan using relevant interventions and treatments for patients admitted in the wards, ICUs and Rehabilitation Department. These may include:
• Therapeutic exercises to improve joint range and muscle power as required
• Reduction of spasticity and contracture management by using medications, stretching, splinting/equipment and positioning
• Functional training for improving mobility and transfers
• Group therapy to improve physical impairments and provide motivation and socialization opportunities
• Manual therapy such as mobilizations, Ergon technique, dry needling and myofascial release techniques
• Electrotherapeutic modalities such as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) and Therapeutic Ultrasound (TUS), Magnetic therapy (MAG)
• Vertical weight bearing practice using tilt tables, stand-aids and standing frames
• Neuromuscular retraining activities including co-contraction and coordination practice, balance exercises, posture corrections and gait re-education
• Ambulation and exercise endurance training using appropriate mobility aids together with equipment such as treadmills, stair climbers, elliptical trainers, stationary cycles, motomed devices and ergometers
• Shortness of breath management through breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, education and graded exercise programs
• Education and advice regarding increasing activity tolerance and through graded individual exercise programs
• Discharge planning for patients by giving home treatment exercise programs, recommendations regarding home modifications and equipment
• Working effectively with other health care professionals in the multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality individualized treatment and setting appropriate patient-led goals
