Babak Homapour

Dr. Babak Homapour has 10 years post-CCT and previously worked as Chief of Neurosurgery at SKMC Hospital in Abu Dhabi. He worked as a consultant in Australia for four years and completed his medical and neurosurgical training in the UK. Dr. Homapour completed a one-year Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery, at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, the largest and busiest unit in the UK for children with neurological disorders. He gained a wide range of experience in clinical, operative, academic, and management aspects of pediatric neurosurgical practice. He has further two-year post-CCT Pediatric Neurosurgery fellowship experience from Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Dr. Homapour has a strong academic track record with an MSc in Surgical Sciences, multiple publications, national and international presentations. He has been involved in the training of junior doctors from medical student to pre-fellowship exam level, and he has been a member of the faculty for the Aberdeen FRCS exam course, which is an international course for Fellowship examination preparation. He completed a fellowship in complex spine and deformity surgery in the Orthopaedic department at Southmead Hospital Bristol and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, with both adult and pediatric practice. Dr. Homapour has very broad experience in spinal surgery and has more specialized pediatric dysraphism experience, which he gained during his fellowship year at GOSH, working under the supervision of Mr. Dominic Thompson. His current practice involves a combination of Pediatric Neurosurgery and adult Neurosurgery. He performed all Pediatric procedures including tumor surgery, CSF surgery, including complex endoscopy, cerebrovascular surgery, spinal and cranial dysraphism, and trauma surgery. He also performs epilepsy and spasticity procedures, including temporal lobectomy, lesionectomy, vagal nerve stimulators, and the insertion of intrathecal delivery pumps. For adults, his practice includes surgery for trauma, intracerebral hemorrhage, decompression for malignant MCA territory infarction, CSF disorders, brain tumors, and surgery for spasticity and epilepsy. With regards to spinal surgery, he performs all operations for spinal tumors, dysraphism, and CSF disorders. He also has experience with neuronavigation, neuroendoscopy, and intraoperative monitoring for brain mapping and spinal surgery.
